Susan Angele

Susan M. Angele is an experienced Fortune 500 global executive, board advisor, and thought leader, recognized twice by NACD as one of the top 100 leaders influencing corporate governance. A lifelong builder of trust in the marketplace and champion of boardroom excellence, she brings deep expertise at the intersection of strategy, risk, regulation, and stakeholder trust.

Susan served as a Senior Advisor and Managing Director at KPMG's Board Leadership Center, where for over a decade she advised public company and private boards and led initiatives to strengthen board effectiveness on topics including strategy, innovation, technology, risk oversight, diversity, climate and ESG, board composition, and modern stewardship. She was instrumental in expanding and modernizing KPMG's board-facing platforms, including the evolution of the Audit Committee Institute into the Board Leadership Center, and creating Board Fit to prepare outstanding diverse board candidates.

She currently serves as Board Chair Emeritus of Invest Ahead, a national, non-partisan forum representing more than 90 institutional investors and other stakeholders with over 8 trillion dollars in assets under management, focused on advancing highly competent and well-composed boards as a foundation of U.S. competitiveness. An active nonprofit leader, she has chaired and served on multiple nonprofit boards and committees, with a particular focus on inclusion, ethics, and trust in the marketplace.

Earlier in her career, Susan held senior legal and governance roles in the global food industry, including Vice President and Global Deputy General Counsel at The Hershey Company and Chief Counsel for the Biscuit, Snacks & Confections Division at Kraft Foods, after serving in progressive leadership roles at Nabisco. Over several decades, she supported iconic brands such as Hershey, Nabisco, Planters, Oreo, and Ritz, with responsibilities spanning M&A, strategic alliances, regulatory and commercial matters, marketing, social media, e-commerce, IP, employment and antitrust, product safety, global trade, procurement, supply chain responsibility, and litigation, while leading global ethics, compliance, security, and crisis management initiatives.

Susan currently serves as an Alpha Fellow, collaborating with technology and board leaders to elevate board oversight of artificial intelligence and to strengthen governance frameworks for emerging technologies. Purpose-driven at this stage of her career, she focuses on boards that are committed to inclusion and to advancing trust in the marketplace and is at work on a forthcoming book on succeeding in business while maintaining strong values.

She is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where she was an editor of the Columbia Law Review and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and of Sarah Lawrence College.
